Top 5 EPs of 2015

Last week we introduced you to our favourits albums of 2015, now it's time for you to know whose EPs made my year. 

La semaine dernière on vous a présenté nos albums favoris de 2015 et aujourd'hui il est temps pour vous de connaître les EPs qui ont marqués mon année 2015.

D.I.D – Fast Food :

Si à mes yeux il y a un come back aussi important que les Libertines cette année c’est bien celui de D.I.D. Anciennement Dog Is Dead le groupe anglais nous a livré un EP ainsi que 2 autres chansons en plus cette année. L’EP intitulé Fast Food est la première musique que l’on entendait d’eux depuis 3 ans maintenant. Il est composé de 4 chansons qui joint harmonies et paroles plus sérieuses comme dans Fast Food qui parle des relations amoureuses des jeunes d’aujourd’hui qui durent très peu de temps ou dans la magnifique Hotel qui aborde le sujet de la solitude « Solitude arrives like a guest at a hotel ». Leur 2 singles sortit plus récemment (juste avant Noël) comporte en premier lieu une chanson de Noël TV Christmas mais aussi Heavy Cloud qui parle de rupture. Ce retour a plus que renforcé mon amour pour le groupe et mon envie de les voir en live (et en France).

To me, D.I.D is the only come back to be as important as The Libertines’ one. Formerly known as Dog is Dead the British band dropped not only an EP but 2 other songs this year. Their EP entitled Fast Food was the first music we heard from them since 3 years. It’s made of 4 songs which are joining harmonies and more serious lyrics. For example in Fast Food they talk about love relationships and how fast they go nowadays and in the beautiful Hotel they talk about loneliness “Solitude arrives like a guest at a hotel”. Their 2 singles which went out more recently (right before Christmas) include in the first place their Christmas song TV Christmas but also Heavy Cloud who is about breaking up. Their come-back made my love for the band and my wish to see them live (and in France hopefully) stronger.

Chelou - Mothership :

Chelou c’est de la guitare acoustique qui se mêle avec des rythmes saccadés à tendance électronique, le tout accompagné de la voix nonchalante mais envoutante du chanteur. Leur folk nous berce et nous réconforte dans un voyage sonore assez puissant.

Ils ont récemment posté un magnifique cover d’Aneurysm de Nirvana, que je vous conseille vivement d’écouter.

Chelou is about acoustic guitar mixed up with jerky rhythms that are tending electronics, everything with the nonchalant but captivating singer’s voice. Their folk is lulling and comforting us in a quite powerful sound trip.

They recently posted a wonderful cover of Aneurysm by Nirvana, that you should check it out.

Made Violent – Made Violent :

Le groupe se décrit lui-même comme « le célèbre groupe de rock américain », je ne sais pas si on peut les considérer comme célèbres mais au moins ils font du rock, et c’est génial. Leur EP est composé de riffs de guitare qui vous donnent envie de bouger et de la voix sympathique, un peu roc par moment du jeune lead singer. Si vous n’êtes pas convaincu par mes mots sachez qu’ils ont fait la première partie de Wolf Alice et que leur avenir promet d’être brillant.

The band is describing itself as « the world famous American rock band ». I don’t know if their famous but at least they do rock, and it’s awesome. Their EP is made of guitar tunes which gave you want to move and of the young singer’s voice, a bit stony now and then but really enjoyable to listen to. If you’re still convinced by my words you should know that they opened for Wolf Alice earlier this year and that their promised to a brilliant future.

Troye Sivan – WILD :

Troye Sivan est revenu sur la scène musicale cette année avec un EP et un album. J’ai personnellement préféré son EP intitulé WILD qui regroupe 4 chansons très diverses mélodie : de la musique électronique et de la pop, avec des paroles assez personnelles. Le résultat est très beau au contraire de l’album qui est continuité de l’EP mais de façon très ennuyant reprenant souvent les mêmes rythmes qui ont fait le succès de son EP.

Troye Sivan came back this year with an EP but also with an album. I personally preferred his EP entitled WILD which includes 4 really different songs mixing different melodies: some electronic music with some pop and quite personal lyrics. The result is really good in opposition with the album, which is the continuity of the EP    but in a very boring way. The album is unfortunately only made of all the same rhythms that made the success of the EP without any new special addition. Too bad.

Aqua Roja – Agua Roja :

Oubliez tous les groupes dont je vous ais parlé auparavant, avec Agua Roja on change de registre et on débarque en France. Beaucoup plus posé et aérienne leur musique donne aussi bien en live (et en festival) comme dans votre chambre. Le mix de guitares, piano et les quelques rythmes électroniques présents associés à la charismatique chanteuse ont fait chavirés mon cœur.

Je vous conseille surtout d’écouter la magnifique The Motion qui m’a fait découvrir le groupe en premier lieu.

Forget about all the groups I just talked about, with Agua Roja we change our register and land in France. Much more set down and dreamy their music is as good in live (and in festival) as in your room. The mix between guitars, piano and a few electric rhythms associated with the charismatic singer tuned my heart upside down.

I especially advice you to listen the wonderful The Motion who made me discover them in the first place.
