EP REVIEW : Black Honey- Headspin
Quand j'écoute un nouvel EP ou un nouvel album j'espère toujours y trouver des chansons qui me torpillent le vente, me retournent la tête et qui font que je me sens reconnaissante d'avoir la chance de connaître le groupe en question. C'est exactement de quoi est fait le second EP de Black Honey intitulé HeadSpin.
Black Honey c'est un groupe anglais avec un identité très personnelle. De leur atworks, à leurs chansons, en passant par leur chanteuse (Izzy B Phillips) tout nous renvoi dans un monde bien à eux qui porte beaucoup de similarité avec les années 1950.
Sur le coup j'ai été assez surprise car étant habituée à des chansons énergiques et entraînante où les guitares priment d'une jolie façon (comme dans Madonna notamment), cet EP est composé presque entièrement de ballades ou tout du moins de chansons moins énergiques que ce dont à quoi je m'attendais mais qui vont rendre le résultat incroyable.
L'EP s'ouvre donc sur All My Pride, chanson dévoilée il y a une semaine environ et qui nous mène parfaitement à la partie du monde de Black Honey qui nous fait les aimer encore plus. Headspin vient ensuite et notre réaction à chaque nouvelle écoute est très semblable au titre. On redécouvre la voix d'Izzy alors qu'elle chante "You make my headspin honey" et que les notes de guitare s'accordent parfaitement avec. En parlant de guitares, ces dernières, en parfait accord avec la batterie, arrivent avec perfection à créer une continuité dans la chanson une fois la partie chant terminée - tout comme dans Mocking Swing que l'on retrouve un peu plus loin. Car si On Your Time, la troisième chanson, ne m'a pas autant transcendé que les deux précédentes, Black Honey ont su finir en beauté avec Mocking Swing, une des plus belle chanson que j'ai pu écouter. La précieuse voix d'Izzy est omniprésente et nous transporte de nouveau, avec la magnifique aide des guitares, dans le fabuleux monde de Black Honey une dernière fois.
Cet EP est sans aucun doute un des meilleurs que j'ai pu écouter cette année, on comprend pourquoi le magazine DIY les a mis dans leur "Class of 2016" et parlent si souvent d'eux. Quoi qu'il en soit, gardez un œil sur ces quatres anglais on se ne sait jamais qu'ils débarquent en France et nous envahissent avec leur tendres vibes.

Whenever I listen to an EP or an album I always hope to find songs that are, turning my head upside down and making me feel grateful to know this band. And this is exactly what Black Honey second EP is made of.
Black Honey is a British band with a very personal identity. From their artworks, to their songs, and their singer's (Izzy B Phillips) look, everything is sending us in their own world which is carrying a lot of similarities with the 50's.
At the time, I was surprised because I was used to energetic and entertaining songs where the guitars predominate in a nice way (like in Madonna for example). But this EP is almost entirely made of ballads or at least of less energetic songs compared to what I was expected - but the result is incredible.
The EP opens on All My Pride, a song they released a week ago or so and which carry us perfectly into the part of their world that we love the more. HeadSpin is coming next and our reaction every time we listen to it is really similar to the title. We are rediscovering Izzy's voice as she sings "You make my head spin honey" and that the guitar notes are perfectly fitting with her. Speaking of guitars, in accordance with the drum, they manage to perfectly create a continuity in the song once the singing part is over - such as in Mocking Swing that comes later on. Because if On Your Time, the third song, did not transcend me as much as the 2 before, Black Honey manages to finish on a high note with Mocking Swing, one of the most beautiful song I have ever heard. Izzy's precious voice is ubiquitous and is bringing us, with the help of the wonderful guitars, one last time into the mystical world of Black Honey.
This EP is by far one of the best I've heard this year . We suddenly fully understand why DIY mag puts them in their "Class of 2016" and speak so much about them. Whatever, keep an eye on them, we don't know how big they'll become.
