Review : In Our Bones by Against The Current.
A la fin du mois de mai, un des derniers groupes signés par Fueled By Ramen a sorti son album. Après avoir sorti une partie des chansons pour faire patienter les fans, Against The Current a révélé l’entièreté de In Our Bones. L’album s’ouvre sur Running With The Wild Things, chanson qui donne le message général pour le reste de l’écoute. Le ton pop avec des tonalité rock nous donne une fausse idée de la suite. En effet, contrairement au précédent EP Gravity qui avait des tonalités rock avec Paralyzed et Fireproof, In Our Bones a en majorité une tonalité pop. Forget Me Now, One More Weekend ou encore Wasteland nous prouve ce point. Au travers des 12 chansons (14 pour la version japonaise), nous découvrons la voix de la chanteuse, Chrissy Costanza, sous plusieurs coutures. Elle s’accorde parfaitement avec le côté pop mais aussi plus rock avec Blood Like Gasoline. Mais ce n’est pas tout, nous pouvons aussi découvrir, une Chrissy plus douce et profonde avec Chasing Ghost, Roses et Demons.
Pour conclure, In Our Bones est globalement un album agréable à écouter, passant de chansons avec un message d’émancipation à des chansons d’amour perdu, ou encore des chansons pop aux chansons plus douces. Ce premier opus ne montre pas tout le talent de ce jeune groupe et n’est pas des plus travaillés, mais on ne peut que leur souhaiter de s’améliorer avec les années qui suivent. De plus, si Fueled By Ramen les ont choisis, c’est qu’ils peuvent nous surprendre par la suite.

At the end of May, the new band signed by Fueled By Ramen released their very first album. After two EPs and releasing a few songs to set the tone, Against The Current finally revealed In Our Bones. Running With The Wild Things opens up the album setting the message for the rest of the listening but the pop rock sound misleads us for the rest of the songs. Indeed, it’s the opposite of the Gravity EP which had more of a rock sound with Paralyzed and Fireproof, In Our Bones is more of a pop album. This is proved with Forget Me Now, One More Weekend and Wasteland. Through the 12 songs (14 for the Japanese version), we can see Chrissy Costanza’s voice fitting perfectly the pop tonality but also fitting with slower songs such as Chasing Ghost, Roses and Demons.
To conclude, In Our Bones is a great album to listen in its whole. We go from songs about emancipation to song about lost love, from a pop sound to slower songs. This first album does not show all the talent Against The Current has but we don’t deny that they will show us what they really are worth it, in the next years. They could surprise us.
