Review : Wild World - Bastille.

Les fans l’ont attendus longtemps et c’est vendredi 9 que Bastille à enfin révéler son deuxième album Wild World. Et c’est avec grand plaisir que nous découvrons enfin 19 chansons, dont une partie ont déjà été joué lors des derniers festivals. 

C’est avec Good Grief que s’ouvre l’album, chanson précédemment déjà sorti. Au départ on se demande si c’est bien Bastille, mais au fur et à mesure on reconnait le rythme qui leur ait particulier. On enchaine ensuite avec The Current qui nous fait comprendre que le groupe n’a pas changé de direction musicale. pop et rythmé. Arrive An Act Of Kindness qui casse le rythme avec un début lent accompagné au piano mais on retrouve vite cette mélodie dansante et les paroles qui se répètent. L’album continu avec Warmth, Glory et Power, chansons fidèles au schéma musical qu’on a repéré. 

Arrive enfin Two Evils qui casse le rythme au bout de 7 chansons. Elle est lente. La voix de Dan est trainante, donnant vie aux paroles. Mais cette chanson ne fait pas que casser la cadence mais elle délimite aussi une partie de la structure du deuxième opus. Le début était consacré à une rupture amoureuse, alors que Send Them Off! et Lethargy nous emmène permis nos démons intérieurs. On échange encore avec une chanson qui ralenti le rythme : Four Walls. Mais on est vite reparti avec Blame dont on a déjà entendu une version en live. Celle ci est suivi de Fake It et Snakes qui feront danser plus d’une personne. Winter of Our Youth rejoint les chansons qui marquent la structure de Wild World en faisant une pause avant de retrouver le rythme pop propre à Bastille avec Way Beyond. Mais cela ne dure pas longtemps avec Oil On Water qui a cette voix trainante, qui se déroule, particulière à Dan. Viennent  Campus et Shame et on a toujours pas une once de doute qu’on est toujours entrain d’écouter le groupe britannique et qu’on est sortis des sentiers battues. C’est sur The Anchor que se ferme l’album, paroles qui clôturent parfaitement l’esprit global de Wild World. 

Pour résumé, Wild World nous montre un travail beaucoup plus recherché, plus travaillé en comparaison avec All This Bad Blood. Et on ne peut qu’apprécier la diversité des sons utilisés. Tout ce que l’on pourrait reproché aux 19 chansons composant l’album serait le schéma qui se répète et qui ne nous surprend plus et dont on peut facilement se lasser. Mais l’album reste fidèle au groupe et est définitivement un album fait pour jouer en live. On donne une mention spécial pour les références filmiques qui s’y sont glissées.

We’ve been waiting for a long time but it’s finally here ! Bastille released their second album Wild World. And we are delightful to eventually hear 19 new songs.

Good Grief opens up the album. It was the first song released to annonce the album. At first we wonder if it is Bastille but by the end we are sure that it’s their sound. The melody and the rhythm can’t deceive us. The Current is next and it’s their trade mark we instantly recognize and love. The British band still has this pop tonality that we enjoyed in the previous opus. Then the structure is broke with An Act of Kindness and its piano. But the upbeat songs starts again with Warmth, Glory and Power. 

Then comes the 7th song, Two Evils which again, slows down the whole energy. Dan’s voice is dragging the lyrics, giving them more depth. The song is also the limit with two themes : a lost love and your demons, subject sang in Send Them Off! and Lethargy. Four Walls is an other slow song that is quickly forgotten with the first notes of Blame’s new version. And it’s faithful to what we already saw live. Fake It and Snakes definitely complets the party feeling that we’re having. Winter of Our Youth, Way Beyond, Oil On Water, all are different, pop, slow, everything sticks to the whole theme of the album.Then we have Campus and Shame and yes, even at the end we still can say it’s a Bastille album and their is no plot twist in their sound. The Anchor closes up Wild World, summing up perfectly the global spirit carried in each songs.

To wrap up this review, Wild World is thoughtful in the use of the instruments, the sound effects and the lyrics. It has more depth than All This Bad Blood. Bastille definitely put a lot of work and it doesn’t go unnoticed. The only disappointing thing would be the scheme similar in every single songs and that can quickly bored us. But the album is faithful to the band and it’s an album you for sure want to experience live. Bonus point for the film references.
