My Favorite Albums And EPs I'Ve Heard So Far

At the end of last year I realized that I forgot about a ton of albums I listened to during the year. But this year is going to be different. Everytime I listen to an album or an EP, I write its name carefully in my small notebook. 

When I finished writing this post I listened to 17 EP and 26 albums. And of course I have around 10 more albums and EP that I haven't had time to listen to. Not to bad for a first time. And now as spring is coming I decided to make a non-exhaustive list of My Favorite Albums And Eps I'Ve Heard So Far :

A la fin de l'année dernière je me suis rendu compte qu'il y avait un nombre impressionnant d'albums que j'avais complètement oublié. Mais cette année ce sera différent. A chaque fois que j'écoute un album ou un EP j'écris son titre dans mon petit carnet.

Qand j'ai finis d'écrire ce post j'avais écouté 17 EPs et 26 Albums. Et évidemment j'en ai une dizaine de plus que j'ai pas encore eu le temps d'écouter. Pas mal pour une première fois. Et comme le printemps vient de pointer son nez, j'ai décidé de vous dresser une liste non-exhaustive de mes albums et EPs favoris que j'ai pu écouter jusqu'à présent :

Alessia Cara – Know It All

I’m not fond of pop. Even when I happen to find a pop artist that I really like (hello Taylor Swift) I never completely love its music. But this time it’s different. In her album Alessia is signing everything I’ve ever wanted to hear as a teenage girl. She’s depicting with truth what being a 19 years-old is all about, finding the perfect balance between an almost omnipresent cynicism and adolescent idealism.

Je ne suis pas fan de pop. Même quand il m’arrive de trouver des artistes pop que j’aime vraiment (hello Taylor Swift) je me retrouve au final sans jamais vraiment aimer complètement sa musique. Mais cette fois c’est différent. Dans son album Alessia chante tout ce que j’ai toujours voulu entendre en tant qu’adolescente. Elle dépeint avec vérité ce que c’est d’être une jeune de 19 ans, trouvant le parfait équilibre entre un cynisme très présent et un idéalisme d’adolescent.

Aurora – All My Demons greeting Me As A Friend

Aurora’s music feels like being wrapped in a conformable duvet made of marshmallow lying down in a soft cloud taking you to heaven. The dark folk-pop singer is going to take you to another world with her dreamy voice and her powerful lyrics. At only 19 she’s already compared to Adele and is promised for a brilliant future.

La musique d’Aurora donne l’impression d’être enroulé dans une couverture faîtes de marshmallow, allongé sur un doux nuage t’emmenant au paradis. La chanteuse de folk-pop sombre t’emmène dans un autre monde avec sa voix rêveuse et ses textes puissants. A seulement 19 ans elle est déjà comparée à Adele et est promise à un avenir brillant.

Bombay – Show your teeth

Bombay is the kind of artist that I listened to thanks to his artwork. As every Friday I go on Spotify to check the last release and Bombay’s album cover hit me. I instantly downloaded it and listened to it on my way to school (and every day after that). I wasn’t disappointed by their powerful and dynamic songs. The album of the indie-rock band from Amsterdam is definitely one of the best I’ve heard this year.

Bombay c’est le genre d’artiste que je découvre grâce à leur artwork. Comme chaque vendredi j’ai checké les nouvelles sorties d’album sur Spotify et leur album m’a sauté à l’œil. Je l’ai instantanément téléchargé et écouter en allant en cours (ainsi que tous les autres matins). Je n’ai absolument pas été déçue par leurs chansons puissantes et très dynamiques. L’album du groupe d’indie rock originaire d’Amsterdam est définitivement un des meilleurs que j’ai pu écouter cette année.

Blossoms – At Most Kiss 

Blossoms’ new EP is full of surprises. Featuring 4 songs, each different to another, it captivated me enough for listening to it on repeat. The EP is begging with At Most A Kiss which is very similar to what we knew of them so far. Fourteen is following where the keyboard and the vocals are the base of this song. Wretched Fate is the reason why this EP won’t be in my top 3 of the best EPs of 2016. I can’t cope with this song, I tried to like it, but musically it’s not working for me. At Most A Kiss is ending perfectly with Misery. Forget everything you knew about Blossoms’ music. Misery features piano, violins and perfectly controlled vocals. What a musical journey.

Le nouvel EP de Blossoms est, du moins qu’on puisse dire, rempli de surprises. Composé de 4 chansons toutes différentes les unes des autres, leur EP m’a captivé assez pour que je l’écoute en boucle. At Most A Kiss  ouvre la danse. Très fidèle à leur style, elle ne change pas de ce qu’on a pu entendre précédemment du groupe originaire de Manchester. Fourteeen s’en suit et le groupe change de registre. Ici, le synthé et la voix de Tom Ogden sont la base de la chanson et non plus les guitares et la batterie. Wretched Fate par contre est la raison pour laquelle cet EP ne figurera pas dans mes préférés de 2016. J’ai essayé d’aimer cette chanson, mais musicalement ça ne marche pas avec moi. At Most A Kiss se finit en beauté avec Misery. Oubliez tout ce que vous saviez sur le type de musique de Blossoms, cette dernière chanson comporte essentiellement du piano, des violons et la voix très douce mais aussi très bien maîtriser de Tom. 

C Duncan – EP

La sortit de cet EP, un an à peine après la sortit de son premier album, m’a permis de rentrer pleinement dans l’univers de C Duncan. Je n’avais entendu que du bien de l’artiste et de son album Architect  mais je n’avais pas jamais réussis à rentrer pleinement dans son univers musical qu’il qualifie lui-même comme dreamy-choral-soft-chilled-folk-électronique. Mais cet EP est pour moi une introspection de son monde, il m’a permis de redécouvrir l’artiste et d’apprécier pleinement sa musique. Alors si comme moi vous n’avez pas su accrocher à son univers il y a quelques mois ou si tout simplement vous découvrez l’artiste, prenez 15 minutes pour vous poser et laissez-vous aller dans le fabuleux monde musical de C Duncan.

The release of this EP, barely a year after the release of his first album, allowed me to understand fully and to properly get in C Duncan’s universe. I only heard good things about the Scottish boy and his album Architect but I never really managed to get in his musical universe that he qualifies himself as dreamy-choral-soft-chilled-folk-électronic. But this EP is for me an introspection into his world, it allowed me to rediscover and actually enjoy his music. So if, like me, you didn’t really like his music or if you just discovered him, go listen to this EP and let yourself go into his majestic world.

Declan Mckenna – Stains

Le prodige musical a réussis à mélange musique électronique et riffs de guitares, le tout soupoudré de paroles pleines de sens portées par des thèmes puissants. Mélangez tout ca et vous avez un des meilleur EP de l’année.

The lyrical prodigy managed to perfectly mixed electronic music to entertaining guitar chord all along his EP. Ad some incredible lyrics carried by meaningful themes, and you have at the end one of the best EP of the year.

Hinds – Leave Me Alone

Les 4 espagnoles nous ont livré un album plein de sentiments, de force, de nostalgie et ROCKKK.

Those 7 albums and EP are the one that I loved and listened to the most when I started to write this post. Among the 20 or so albums I discovered, I highly recommend The 1975 - I Like It When You Sleep, For You Are So Beautiful Yet So Unaware Of It,  Flowers - Everybody's Dying to meet you, Chrome Pony - Past Lives, Florist - The Birds Outside etc. I also recommend all the EPs I listened to (like litterally ALL OF THEM), but especially The Magic Gang - EP, Dandies - Evocati, Henri Herbet - You Say, The Big Moon - The road.


Ces 7 albums et EPs sont ceux que j'ai le plus aimé mais également ceux que j'ai le plus écouté au moment où j'ai commencé à écrire ce post. Mais parmi la vingtaine d'albums que j'ai pu découvrir je vous conseille également The 1975 - I Like It When You Sleep, For You Are So Beautiful Yet So Unaware Of It,  Flowers - Everybody's Dying to meet you, Chrome Pony - Past Lives, Florist - The Birds Outside etc. Je vous recommande aussi tous les EPs que j'ai pu écouter (littérallement TOUS les EPs) mais surtout The Magic Gang - EP, Dandies - Evocati, Henri Herbet - You Say, The Big Moon - The road.
