LIVE REVIEW : LANY in Brussels @ L'Ancienne Belgique
Il y a quelques semaines on a
décidé d’aller découvrir LANY, un
groupe d’électro/dream pop américain (leur nom est la contraction de LA pour
Los Angeles et NY pour New York) qui connaît un vif succès outre-Atlantique et
qui a joué plusieurs reprises à guichets fermés en Europe.
A few weeks ago we decided to see LANY, an electro/dream pop American
band (their name is the contraction of LA in Los Angeles and NY in New York),
they’re wildly successful in the US and played a few times sold out gigs for
their first club tour in Europe.
C’est Jacob Ogawa, un norvégien, qui a ouvert la soirée avec sa douce
électro pop qui a bien mis l’ambiance et a su gagner la sympathie du public et
quelques nouveaux fans. De notre côté le groupe a été une belle découverte et
on hâte d’entendre plus de chansons d’eux.
It’s Jacob Ogawa, a Norwegian, who opened the night with his sweet
electro pop who set a nice atmosphere and made a few new fans. For our part,
the band was a nice discovery and we can’t wait to hear new songs.
Mais les plus surprenants restent
LANY. Déjà il faut savoir que le groupe est formé de 3 chanteurs /musiciens,
tous aussi talentueux les uns que les autres, mais que c’est surtout le
chanteur, Paul Jason Klein aka PJK qui est mis en avant. Et au début
c’est un peu surprenant de voir les deux autres membres (Les Priest au clavier et à la guitare et Jake Goss à la batterie) relayés sur le côté et un peu cachés mais
dès que PJK arrive sur scène et commence à chanter on oublie vite ce petit
détail tellement son charisme et talent nous surprennent. En fait LANY fait partit de cette liste de
groupes qui sont limites meilleurs en live qu’en studio. LANY c’est une vraie expérience musicale et tout est fait de A à Z
pour ca, en commençant par la lumière et l’ambiance qui est instaurée. La
lumière tamisée, nous surprend, nous émerveille mais surtout créée un suspens avec
toutes les roses levées en l’air : LANY
a un fort succès outre-Atlantique mais pas que. Ce vendredi soir c’est des
centaines de fans qui sont venues avec des roses voir le groupe jouer pour la
première fois en Belgique.
But the most surprising is LANY. First, you need to know that the band
is made of 3 musicians/singers, all very talented, but it’s the main singer,
Paul Jason Klein aka PJK who’s the spotlight. At the start it’s a bit confusing
to see the other members (Les Pries tat the keyboard and Jake Goss at the drum)
hidden in the back, but as soon as PJK comes on stage and starts to sing, we
understand and we’re carried away by his charisma and his talent. Actually LANY
is the kind of band who’s is better live than in studio. It’s a real musical experience
and everything is made for that, from the beginning to the end and starting
with the light and the atmosphere established. The subdued light is surprising
and impressive, but it also creates a suspense with all the roses lifted to the
light. LANY may be successful in the US, but not only. This Friday night
hundreds of fans came with roses to see the band live for the first time in
Belgium.
Le suspens est mis à terme avec
les premières notes de Yea Babe. La
salle danse, chante en chœur avec PJK et crie des fois aussi. Bref, le concert
est officiellement commencé. Le groupe enchaîne avec Bad Bad Bad et son refrain entraînant, tout le monde saute en
chantant en harmonie. Un concert de LANY,
c’est beau non seulement pour la prestation du groupe mais aussi pour tous les
fans dévoués qui sont présent(e)s et le font savoir. Que ce soit dans les
chansons plus anciennes et les plus belles comme I Love You So Bad ou Where
The Hell Are My Friends que Good
Girls, leur dernière sortie il y a quelques semaines (et que vous avez pu
écouter sur snapchat pendant quelques jours), tout le monde chante les paroles
de façon tellement belle et passionnée, comme si leur vie ou plutôt leur
bonheur en dépendait. Le concert a aussi été ponctué de chansons inédites comme
It Was Love et The Break Up et qui nous donnent un bel avant gout de leur album
qui sortira le 30 juin.
The supsense comes to an end with the first song Yea Babe. The audience
is dancing, singing along with PJK and also screams sometimes. In a nutshell,
the gig officially started. The band carries on with Bad Bad Bad and its entertaining
chords, everybody jumps and sings all together. LANY’s gig is something
beautiful and not only for the band’s performance but also for all the devoted
fans who are here and make it known. Whether it’s in the oldest and most
beautiful songs like I Love You So Bad or Where The Hell Are My Friends than Good
Girls, their last single released a few weeks ago (you may have heard it on
snpachat last week for a few days), everyone is singing the lyrics in such a pretty and passionate way, as if their lives
or rather their happiness depended on it. The show was also dotted by unreleased
songs like It Was Love and The Break Up and who are giving us a nice taste of
how their upcoming album is gonna sound like.
On est ressortie du concert plein
d’amour et de bonne humeur et maintenant on a qu’une hâte : entendre leur

We left the venue full of love and in a good mood and now we simply
can’t wait to hear this new album (and to see them live again). You pre-order
