Live Review : Against The Current @ La Maroquinerie.
Samedi soir Crossmusic était au rendez-vous pour la dernière date européenne de Against The Current. Et nous avons même assisté en comité réduit à une séance photo et au soundcheck. La soirée commence avec les balances. Les fans ont la chance de pouvoir entendre Outsiders et Fireproof qui ne seront pas jouer lors du set. Viennent ensuite les photos avec le groupe avant de patienter et d’avoir la chance d’assister aux balances de la première partie : Beach Weather.
Crossmusic was there, ready to cover the last date on the In Our Bones European Tour. We had the opportunity to have a VIP pass for the soundcheck and a group photo. The evening started with Against The Current’s soundcheck. They performed Outsiders and Fireproof that won’t be on the set later on. We next moved to the photos before having the opportunity to see the first part, Beach Weather’s soundcheck as well.
20h la salle est remplie à craquer et prête à être conquis par Beach Weather. C’est une enchainement de chansons toutes plus dynamiques et fraiches qui nous attend. Le trio nous fait découvrir leurs deux EPs (What A Drag et Chit Chat) avec Wolf, Bad Seed, Swoon et Someone’s Disaster entre autre. Nick, Reeve et Austin conquis facilement le public avec leurs riffs, puissance vocale et la maturité des sons.
8pm. The room is full and Beach Weather is now on stage. Their set is a mix of songs from both of their EPs What A Drag and Chit Chat. Wolf, Bad Seed, Swoon and Someone’s Disaster, just to name a few, are energetic and fresh. Nick, Reeve and Austin won over the audience with their mature sound.
21h. Le vrai show commence. 400 personnes dans une petite salle trépignent d’impatience dès les premières notes de l’intro. Will, Dan et Chrissy entre enfin sur scène et Runaway peut commencer. Pas besoin de deux secondes de plus pour que les fans soient complètement emporté par la musique, tout le monde chante, saute et hurle les paroles. Le trio et le public ne font qu’un. Forget Me Now est la suivante puis Talk et Paralyzed, qui apparaissent sur l’EP Gravity. Pas une minute de répit. Le concert a à peine commencé que l’on est sûr d’une chose : Chrissy est une vraie chanteuse de pop-rock qui sait faire le show.
9pm and the main show starts ! The intro puts the whole room on the edge and then Runaway starts as Dan, Will and Chrissy arrives on stage. The fans don’t need more time to be fully immersed in the song, they already are dancing, jumping and singing along.The trio and the audience are one. Forget Me Now is next followed by Talk and Paralyzed, both from the Gravity EP. There are no moments to take our breath. It’s only the beginning of the night and we can already say than Chrissy is an amazing lead singer.
Le rythme ralenti avec Chasing Ghosts. Malgré le fait d’être malade, la chanson est parfaitement réalisée et pleine d’émotions. Mais ce n’est rien comparé à Roses, chanson dédiée à Julius, son ami récemment décédé qui a poussé la rockstar à suivre son rêve. Les paroles sont profondes en opposition à la puissance des instruments. L’énergie du petit bout de femme passe directement à Blood Like Gasoline et Teenagers, covers en l’honneur des dix ans de The Black Parade (sorti avec Rock Sound).
The set slows down with Chasing Ghosts. The vocalist has been sick since the beginning of the of tour, but nonetheless, she managed to put all her feelings in it. But it’s nothing next to Roses. Earlier this month, she dedicated it to Julius the friend who inspired her to caring on her dream. The lyrics are deep in opposition to the strong instrumental. The energies back with Blood Like Gasoline and Teenagers, cover released with Rock Sound for The Black Parade’s tenth anniversary.
On arrive bientôt à la fin du set et le groupe se pose pour communiquer avec le public. On ne reprochera pas le fait que seule la chanteuse parle quant elle essaie de faire participer Dan, le guitariste, alors qu’il est timide et essaie de prendre un peu plus la parole. C’est à ce moment que le groupe décide d’introduire Young & Relentless avec un speech inspirant sur la poursuite de ses rêves. Accord parfait avec les paroles du dernier single en date, ainsi que Brighter. On regrettera ne pas avoir In Our Bones, Infinity mais nous avons le droit à Another You (Another way) issu du premier EP. La soirée se cloture sur Dreaming Alone et Gravity. Fin parfaite à ce concert plein d’énergie et d’unité entre les américains et les français. Unité que l’on retrouvera au moment où Chrissy est allé directement dans la fausse pour danser et chanter. On en ressortira conquis par la puissance musicale et n’ayant qu’une envie : les revoir et voir leur évolution.
It’s nearly the end of the show and the band takes a break to have a talk with the fans. We won’t complain about Dan, the guitarist, not talking a lot when we see how shy he is and how Chrissy is trying to get him to express himself. It’s this moment they chose to give an inspirational speech about following your dreams. It goes perfectly with the latest single Young And Relentless as well as with Brighter. We regret not seeing In Our Bones and Infinity being performed but we got Another You (Another Way) from the first EP. The tour ends with Dreaming Alone and Gravity. It’s the perfect end to an energetic night where the unity between the Americans and the French was at its peak when the young lady went down in the crowd to dance and sing along with everyone. When we left the venue all we could thing about was to see them again and watch them evolve in the near future.
