throwback : when we saw Born Idiot and FoolJoy live.

En juillet on s’est rendu pour la 1^e fois au Supersonic, un bar/concert en plein milieu de Paris avec entrée gratuite et une très bonne programmation musicale. On s’y est rendu pour voir le groupe de rock rennais Born Idiot et FoolJoy, une de ses premières parties. Une soirée très française au menu mais surtout plutôt cool.

In July we went for the very first time in ‘Le Supersonic’, a bar and music venue in the middle of Paris with a lot of great and free gigs. We went there to see Born Idiot’s french pop and FoolJoy, one of their opening act. A very french, but very cool night ahead.

En effet, notre soirée à commencé en découvrant FoolJoy et ses douces vibes. De la funk mêlant de la pop, le groupe nous a éblouis par son énergie malgré le fait qu’il soit encore très jeune et ai très peu de chansons. C’est surtout l’ambiance qu’ils ont transmis qui nous a le plus surpris, dès les premières notes la salle s’est rempli s’est remplie de chaleur et de bonnes énergies et le public s’est tranquillement mis à danser au beau son de FoolJoy.

Mixing funk and pop FoolJoy surprised us with its good vibes and energy despite their young age and the fact that had only have a few songs. It’s the mood of the venue they shared whom amazed us the most – as soon as the first chords hit the room it filled with warmth and good vibes and the audience started to slowly danse to the sweet sound of FoolJoy.

Et puis un peu plus tard c’est au tour de Born Idiot de monter sur scène et de nous montrer de quoi ils sont capables. On connaissait du groupe rennais leurs chansons de bitter pop lo-fi, mais sur scène on a surtout découvert un groupe qui très confiance en lui quand il en vient à présenter ses chansons à une audience se tenant à quelques centimètres de lui. Cela peut sembler anodin mais à force d’aller de concert en concert on se rend compte très rapidement quand un groupe est vraiment sur de lui ses chansons ressortiront mieux et plus puissantes. D’ailleurs si je devais décrire cette nuit en un mot ce serait « puissant » car Born Idiot nous a laissé bouche bé sur le moment et avec un goût amer désormais quand on écoute sa musique en version studio tellement ils ont réussi à donner une vraie dimension à leur univers en live. Alors bravo à eux car en plus de nous avoir impressionné, leur set nous a encore plus donnés envie de nous intéresser à la scène rennaise et de découvrir tous ces beaux groupes en live.

Later on it’s Born Idiot’s time to come on stage and show us what they’re capable of. We knew their bitter pop lo-fi song,s but on stage we mainly discovered a really confident band especially, when it comes to singing in front of a really small and close audience. It may seem like a small detail but when you spent a lot of time going to gigs you notice when a band is really confident and therefore his songs are really powerful. Actually if I had to describe their gig with one word it would « powerful » as Born Idiot left us speechless. Thank you to them for being awesome and impressing us and motivating us to be more attentive to Rennes’ music scene and to discover those great bands live.
